  • Day 2: Winnipeg | Churchill

    Board an internal flight to Churchill 

     Arrive in Churchill 

    • the Polar Bear Capital of the World. Begin your arctic adventure in this tiny, fly-in community on the shores of the Hudson Bay. Make your way to your homebase for the week, the Churchill Northern Studies Centre, a working research station that hosts scientists and researchers from around the globe. 

    Learn more about Churchill and the challenges the town faces as you watch the documentary film 'Know I'm Here' 

  • Day 3: Churchill

    Current research presentation -  hear all about the critical research being done at the CNSC and the impacts it will have. 

    Hands-on wet lab experiment or data collection activity at the CNSC

    Guided tidal flats walk - head to Bird Cove for an interpretive low tide walk and the chance to spot local birds 

    Evening Lecture - Students will present their own research on Belugas 

  • Day 4: Churchill

    Kayaking adventure with belugas in the Hudson Bay -  witness the thrilling sights (and sounds) as the largest population of belugas in the world makes the Churchill area their summer home. 

    STEM Careers exploration activity with staff at the CNSC 

    Green Building Tour of the CNSC -  learn the history of the Churchill Northern Studies Centre and its environmentally friendly 27,000 sq. ft. LEED-certified research station. 

    'Rocket Greens' sustainable hydroponic garden tour & talk

    Evening Lecture - Students will present their own research on Belugas 

  • Day 5: Churchill

    Guided Estuary Boat Tour -  marvel at the pods of up to 3,500 belugas from a zodiac boat at the mouth of the Churchill River. Keep your eyes peeled to hopefully spot Polar bear on the shore (polar bear sightings are not guaranteed)

    Guided Ramsey Trail Hike -  deepen your knowledge of the subarctic on a guided walk through the tundra forest. 

    Guided Rocket Range Tour -  enjoy a guided tour of the Churchill Rocket Research Range National Historic Site – built in 1954 – and learn about its ties to the Canadian Space Agency and NASA. 

    Evening Lecture - Students will present their own research on Belugas 

  • Day 6: Churchill

    Guided tour of Churchill & Town murals

    Visit the Parks Canada Interpretive Centre to learn about  the ecology and human history of Wapusk National Park

    Visit Polar Bears International House - a centre focused on educating about polar bears and the challenges they face in a warming climate. 

    Cultural Talk with a local Indigenous elder 

  • Day 7: Churchill | Winnipeg

    Board an internal flight back to Winnipeg

    Free time to explore Winnipeg

  • Day 8: Depart for home
