Traverse four of Europe's most-storied capital cities, each offering its own unique array of cultural experiences–from language to food and beyond. London and Paris, longtime rivals and bastions of human achievement, unfurl their architectural marvels—the majestic Eiffel Tower and the venerable Westminster Abbey—each a testament to centuries of British and French ingenuity. In Brussels, The Grand Palace awaits to dazzle you with its magnificent blend of neo-Gothic and Baroque stylings, while Amsterdam’s canal-laced streets bear the marks of centuries of maritime trade, and Renaissance splendor. As you journey through Paris, you'll come to the Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe, and other iconic sites etched with tales of revolution and romance. Taken together, these four historic cities tell more than any could in-and-of themselves–all you need do is explore, discover, and listen.

Frequently Asked Questions for European Quartet

How does the tour travel between Paris and London — is the Eurostar train ride included?

Yes, the tour includes the iconic Eurostar high-speed train from Paris to London, travelling through the Channel Tunnel beneath the English Channel. The journey takes approximately 2.5 hours and is a highlight in itself — many students find the experience of crossing between two countries by undersea rail unforgettable. Students are supervised throughout the journey by the Tour Director and chaperones, and the train offers comfortable seating with time to relax between the Paris and London legs of the tour.

With four cities in one tour, how much time do students actually spend in each destination?

The European Quartet is designed to give students a meaningful taste of four distinct European capitals. Students generally spend 1–2 full days in each destination. The pace is active but well-structured — guided tours cover the must-see landmarks efficiently, and free time is built in so students can explore at their own pace. The variety of cities is a major draw, as students experience four different cultures, languages, and histories in a single trip.

Is the visit to EU institutions in Brussels guided, and what will students see?

The itinerary typically includes the area around the European Parliament and other EU buildings, along with Brussels' stunning Grand-Place. Your Tour Director provides context about the EU's role and history, making it an excellent complement to social studies and civics curricula. The blend of political institutions and Belgian culture — from the Atomium to local chocolate shops — makes Brussels a memorable and educational stop.

Is the current status of Notre-Dame Cathedral going to affect the Paris itinerary?

Notre-Dame Cathedral officially reopened in December 2024 following its restoration after the 2019 fire. The tour's Paris walking tour passes by Notre-Dame in the Latin Quarter, and students can admire the restored exterior and, depending on scheduling and availability, may have the opportunity to visit inside. Your Tour Director will provide the latest information on access and visiting options. The cathedral's restoration story itself adds a compelling layer to the experience — a living example of historical preservation and French cultural identity.

What educational curriculum connections does this tour support?

The European Quartet connects to a wide range of secondary school subjects. In Amsterdam, the Anne Frank House and Dutch Golden Age history tie into World War II studies and art history. Brussels brings European politics and governance to life. Paris offers connections to the French Revolution, Enlightenment philosophy, and world-class art at the Louvre. London covers British history, parliamentary democracy, and literary heritage. Many teachers use EF Tours as an extension of their classroom curriculum, and EF provides pre-trip lesson plans and post-trip reflection activities to deepen the learning experience.
