Vimy 100 might be over, but the memories live on

There will never be another chance to participate in Vimy 100—the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. Thousands of people from across Canada travelled with EF to Arras, France to participate in the commemorative ceremony and form a deeper connection to Canadian history.

The EF Educational Hub

We wanted to create an innovative, interactive, and totally unique experience for our Vimy 100 travellers, so we created the EF Educational Hub—a massive space with immersive activities, walls of collaborative art, and the sounds of war exploding from an above-ground trench. Sound interesting? Learn more about the Hub and our educational partners involved here.

The Vimy 100 Ceremony

Held on the afternoon of April 9th, the Vimy 100 ceremony was a moving experience. Standing under a cloudless sky with the monument towering above of them, thousands of people gathered on the grounds the battle took place. From the inspiring speech made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, to the First World War replica planes roaring through the sky and over the monument, our travellers were able to develop a richer understanding of this historic event and how it impacts present-day Canada.

This whole process has changed my perspective on Vimy Ridge. When I show pictures of it or we talk about it in the classroom I think I’ll definitely be looking at it through a different lens. This is a great jumping off point for educators because it’s a symbol, not just a monument.
