Frequently asked questions about COVID-19 (Coronavirus)
Updated April 22, 2020

As the impact of the COVID-19 continues to be felt around the world, here’s what you should know as a member of our EF family: We have brought all EF groups traveling internationally and within North America home. We are committed to working with groups that are travelling or plan to travel in 2020 to provide them with options and flexibility to amend or postpone their travel. We are closely monitoring and actively following the guidance from the Government of Canada and Public Health Canada.

This is a difficult situation for everyone, but the health and safety of our travellers and staff is our top priority. EF has been leading the educational travel industry for 55 years, and we will continue to lead today, tomorrow, and in the coming months and years. We thank you for your patience in these unprecedented times. Please know that we’re here to support you, and, even though travel feels uncertain right now, we look forward to working together to ensure that seeing the world remains a possibility.

1. What is EF doing in reaction to the COVID-19 outbreak?

The Government of Canada has recommended against all non-essential international travel. Due to our unwavering commitment to safety, we have proactively brought all groups that were travelling home. We actively continue to follow the evolving guidance from Government of Canada and Public Health Canada and will be in contact with all groups with upcoming travel regarding flexible options for their tour.

In addition, to further help our travellers, we are extending our Peace of Mind program for all 2020 travellers regardless of your destination or departure date. Groups can elect to move their tour to the summer or elect for the group to receive vouchers good towards future travel with any of our EF Tours programs or EF Language School programs. To discuss what options are available to you, teachers and Group Leaders can consult their Tour Consultant or call 1-800-387-1460. Parents or students can contact our Traveller Support team at 1-800-263-2806.

2. What options does our group have if we want to postpone or change our tour?

Our Peace of Mind program, which we provide for every group, is designed for just this type of situation. If you are travelling in 2020, your group has three options:
• Change the date of the tour.
• Work with EF to amend an existing itinerary or change to a different tour.
• Choose to have each traveller receive an EF Future Travel Voucher

3. What is an EF Future Travel Voucher?

A Future Travel Voucher is issued in the amount of all monies paid by a traveller for their originally scheduled tour, including the $199 non-refundable deposit and less additional non-refundable fees. Future Travel Vouchers may be used towards travel programs from a variety of EF products, and we have program options tailored to graduating students, high school students, grades 6–8, educators, parents, and adult travellers. Future Travel Vouchers are transferable to immediate family members and to students or faculty in the same school district as the traveller to which they are issued. They can be used for travel with any of the following EF products through September 30th, 2022:

EF Educational Tours: Teacher- or Group Leader-led international tours give students experiences that make them more confident, curious, and open-minded.

EF Tours for High School Graduates*: Immersive trips designed for graduating high school and post-secondary students. We plan everything. You just travel.

EF Gap Year*: Graduating high school seniors can spend an academic year or semester abroad that includes language study, cultural exchange, and internship experience.

EF Ultimate Break*: Group travel for anyone 18–29. EF Ultimate Break is the perfect way for travellers to discover the world. Together.

EF Go Ahead Tours: Cultural adventures—from European food-and-wine tours to African safaris—for travellers of all ages.

EF Language Schools*: One-week to one-semester international language learning programs for students and adults. Choose from 12 languages and 54 destinations

4. What are my refund options?

We know that the decision to travel is a very personal one. That’s why we have amended our policies so that you can elect to take a Future Travel Voucher even if your group chooses a different option (such as rescheduling the tour for a date that does not work with your schedule, or decides not to travel and cancels under the standard cancellation terms as outlined in the Booking Conditions.) Taking a Future Travel Voucher instead of cancelling allows you to protect your full investment and travel at a later date that works for you—giving you the option to use the voucher on a variety of EF programs. Available program options are tailored to graduating students, high school students, grades 6–8, educators, parents, and adult travellers and are detailed in questions 5–8 below. Should a EF Future Travel Voucher not work for you, you can cancel with the standard cancellation terms as outlined in the Booking Conditions.  Depending on the date that you notified us of your decision to cancel your tour, you may be entitled to a refund from EF. If you purchased insurance, you may be able to make an insurance claim
