Rules of the road

All travellers must carefully adhere to the following regulations while on tour:

  • All scheduled activities are obligatory. If you are sick or have a physical ailment, you must tell the group leader, who should notify the EF Tour Director.
  • If you wish to visit friends or relatives while you’re abroad, you need to let your group leader know before your tour begins.
  • If you wish to visit friends or relatives while you’re abroad, you need to let your group leader know before your tour begins.
  • Visitors or group members of the opposite sex are not permitted in students’ rooms. The group leader and EF Tour Director usually set a curfew of around 11:30 p.m., which you are expected to follow for your own safety and security. Room checks will be conducted each night.
  • Smoking is not allowed on buses, during meals, in hotel rooms or in any other shared, enclosed space.
  • Hitchhiking and the driving or renting of any motor vehicle are strictly forbidden for all travellers.
  • Please be aware that shoplifting, illegal drugs or any other illegal activity will not be tolerated. Should the local authorities be involved, you will be subject to the laws of the country you are visiting.
  • Keep in mind that you are required to pay for any phone calls or incidental personal expenses incurred at your hotels. You will have to pay for these the evening before your group departs at each hotel.
  • You are responsible for paying for any damage done to your hotel rooms or to tour buses.
If you do not conform to any of these regulations, you risk disciplinary action and possible dismissal from the tour, returning home at your expense. That decision is up to EF and/or your group leader in consultation with the student’s parents.
